JEWELRY CARE

Gold-plated on Silver, Gold-plated on Stainless Steel and Gold-plated on Brass

Some of the pieces that we carry are rhodium, gold or rose gold plated. These pieces go through a special manufacturing process to make the silver look like another color. It is very IMPORTANT that you handle these pieces similar to fine jewelry. The jewelry wearing guide below provides some goods tips on how to better care for these pieces but the onus is on you to ensure you are taking the proper steps to take care of your jewelry pieces.

If you notice discoloration and a reaction to some of our plated pieces, STOP wearing the pieces immediately as your body’s natural acidity is reacting to the manufacturer’s plating process. Made in May Jewelry does not take any responsibility to the effects of these pieces on the end-user.

  • Remove Jewelry when Performing Labor Intensive Tasks or Sports – When performing labor intensive tasks, remove your jewelry to prevent physical damage or exposure to chemicals or cleaning fluids. When wearing your precious jewelry, avoid kitchen work, gardening, cleaning the house, playing sports, or simply remove prior to performing these tasks.

  • Put Jewelry On after Cosmetic Application – Save the best for last by putting on your jewelry after applying makeup. Cosmetics, hairspray, perfumes and lotion often contain chemicals that can damage jewelry. Putting jewelry on after applying cosmetic application will limit these harmful materials from causing potential damage to your precious metals.

  • Remove Jewelry before Entering Pools or Spas – Chlorinated water may cause color changes and even structural damage due to chlorine’s reaction with metals. Therefore, it is best to remove your precious metals when swimming or going to spas.

  • Remove your Jewelry before Bathing – Soap can cause a film to form, making it appear dull and dingy.
